Good Outside Eating
I like Burgers and Brew. I visit the Sacramento restaurant often. The variety of burgers and brews are extensive. Their menu includes soups, salads and sandwiches. Burgers and Brew has a second location in Davis, California. It is located on 3rd Street.

I have only eaten at Shady Lady once so my opinion does not carry much weight. My meal was very good. Their drink menu is long so eating is good, but many people go just for the beverages.

My beautiful, charming, generous, intelligent and…did I say wonderful?, younger sister (it is important to mention younger) sent me a text telling me to put up some fun stuff on my blog and reduce the political non-sense.
I think she would like me to move out of Arnoldsville and join her and other family members in the Newport Beach area. Oh, it is so, so tempting. I better stop or I will get into politics again. After reading her texts I got busy with some restaurants that I visited over the summer, but never reviewed on this blog.
Thanks for the text Cindy! Look for more fun stuff to come and much less politics.

I never get tired of Magpie Caterers. Friday I paid a visit with my daughter and Roxy. Roxy (photo left) thought it was a bit hot to eat outside so we took our food home. If you have a reason to take yours home you will not be disappointed. Magpie has very fresh food and their menu changes daily.

This Greek restaurant in mid-town Sacramento is great. I have been there a couple times with my daughter and we both liked it so much we did not stay away long before paying our second visit.

There is a race for governor going on in California. Politicians from both parties are pushing political hot buttons that get voters all worked up. This provides lots of media coverage to candidates as they declare their positions.
Most recently, democrats and republicans are pushing the pension reform and state budget hot buttons. Democrats and Republicans fail to communicate that the State budget and Pension reform are two separate issues. Pension reform will have very little impact on the general budget deficit today or in the future.
The leadership in Sacramento and those who aspire to be the next governor are spending way too much time pushing these hot political buttons. Politicians in both parties need to focus on developing a budget addressing the real needs of the California economy.
Pass a budget that is good for the California economy and then move on to important issues of the day. I’m betting pension reform will end up being a non-issue. Pensions put far more $ into the economy than they take from the state budget. One has to look past the politics to see the economic benefits pensions play in our economy.
My Review: 2 1/2 Paws out of 4 Paws-I note, “my brain tried really hard to keep up. The more it tried the more confused I became”.
Daughters Review: 3 1/2 Paws out of 4 Paws-She notes, “a movie that keeps you engaged and thinking even after the credits roll”.
I saw the movie Inception with my daughter. As we walked away from the theater she said “that was really good”. I looked at her in the same way I viewed the movie, in a state of confusion. That being said, I guess this movie is suppose to confuse viewers and it succeeded with this movie goer.
Rotten Tomatoes gives this movie a terrific review. You can read what the critics say and view some trailers by going to Rotten Tomatoes. Just click HERE to visit their site.
Reading the stories in the front section of the newspaper has become extremely difficult. One story after another points to leaders at both the state and federal level not focusing on solutions to serious issues. Let me give you two examples taken from the July 10, 2010 edition of the Sacramento Bee.
- Wage cut hinges on tech-The governors office in California believes we should cut state worker pay until a state budget is in place. The state controllers office believes the tech systems currently in place does not make this possible. Analysis-Work on getting a budget in place. Both sides are wasting time playing politics. Layoff every single worker and you still have a huge budget deficit. Delaying their pay plays havoc on the economy but does not reduce the deficit by a single copper plated penny.
- Audits leave illegal workers jobless-This story is about how the federal government has replaced raids with audits in order to prevent illegal aliens from working. It is also about how difficult it is for farms and growers to find workers. Analysis-When the economy is in good shape nobody including the federal government pays much attention to temporary workers in the United States. Come on people! How many of you really want to go to Walla Walla Washington and pick apples this summer? On those hot summer nights when you are having a salad for dinner think about how that green stuff ended up on your plate. Most likely it was picked by someone labeled illegal worker. If you don’t like eating that red delicious apple with the Washington label because it was picked and packed by a worker who is not here legally, Walla Walla Washington may have a job for you! Job description includes living in a shack and climbing ladders in 90 degree temperatures.
I dream of the day when I pick up my morning paper and read about serious issues being solved with serious and practical solutions. Until then, I suggest to all newspapers that the Sports section replace the front page. Place the front page section right in the middle with the advertisements. Bird cages of America are a perfect place for government policies and solutions that fill these pages.
